Aion - Chinese Open Beta
Anyone else playing the game? Because I started today, and I'm going to use it to the max (non-Chinese players can play, from what I've heard, 6 hours every 24 hours, so it's pretty damn long anyway).
Graphics are amazing, the game is using Far Cry 1 engine with heavy improvements, yet FPS is very high even on a moderate good PC (full bloom, full details and max resolution of course). Also you get a LOT of exp for Missions and quite a lot of gold for Quests (yeah, system from GW). After about an hour and half I'm level 6 already, and that's barely after 2 missions and few quests.
The only bad thing is that I have to dual boot my XP - GameGuard protecting Aion is not supported in Windows 7 and it crashes my computer with blue screen of death. No problems on Windows XP, though.
To answer the obvious question - no, I don't speak Chinese. There are English patches for the game and I can say that 95% of the game is already translated.

Apart from the novelty factor and the graphics, does it have anything that makes it worth playing?
I'm just curious, because there's a lot of hype about it, yet the game seems average to me. I'm mostly refering to gameplay, which seems have little, if any, innovations. The fact that it seems to be designed for the asian market doesn't help either.
I do realize it's early to make a good impression of the game, so I'll wait till someone shares more info.

Think about it as of WoW + GW PvE, where monsters do give nice exp, but quests usually are a faster way to level and Lineage 2 Siege PvP. Add aerial combat and it's awesome.
I'm already level 7,5 so I'm going to get my wings by tomorrow, Thursday tops.

After 3 hours of playing (EXACTLY 3 hours - luck or something else? xd) I'm a bit over level 9 and I started the Ascension quest (...yeah) for class change and getting wings... 3 hours is pretty fast, don't you think?
But here's the trick - to avoid people heavily grinding and rushing, bots doing levels and so on, after 3 hours you have to "have a little rest". Literally. So they cut drops and exp gained after that time until you rest. Pretty good IMO, if people get addicted (...if? xd), they always have another reason to rest for half an hour or so.
I think that few words should be about Death System. When you lose all hit points, you are left half-alive on your knees. You can't be attacked or healed, you also can't use skills or act at all except for talking. Other people have over 30 minutes to come and rez you, or you can just teleport to the last obelisk you have saved at. For a minute after the resurrection at the "shrine", you are weakened for a minute, you move slower and you have half of your health and MP. You also temporarily lose part of your experience bar. How does this work?
Basically, it cuts off part of your current experience bar. You don't lose experience, but you can't for example level up when you have "full" bar, because there is a gray space, like Exhaustion in GW. You have to pay a small amount at the Soul Healer's place (not sure if you can wait out - I died only once and chose to pay). Then you regain exp lost in death and you can level up normally. You also can't lose level this way. Pretty near, as it doesn't make death too pushing or too forgiving.

How about you read my post first, then notice that you get 1/5 of the levels after mere 3 hours.
I don't think you could level so fast in Prophecies.

Again, read the first post. There is an English patch already.

Surprisingly, level 50 is max.
About the signing up and everything else to make Aion English.
http://forums.f13.net/index.php?topic=16646.0
Just remember to patch the game before changing language to English. Otherwise it will corrupt the game and you will have to reinstall.
I also found on that site the restriction removing link... But you need a Chinese ID, which isn't that easy.

Cheers for the link, lets me be lazy and not look for it myself :P
Downloading atm, 8 hours to go ho-hum.
Do you have to run an updater as well?
EDIT: Scrap that, my reading skills fail

Wow bored the shit out of me after 3 hours. I don't think I even got to level 7, it was just too God damn tedious.
Didn't play, can't say.

Good, WoW feels like a cakewalk anyway. Not that Aion is that hard - up to level 10 is tutorial, and I died only one time because I was two levels lower than what the quest requires.

All MMOs are.
I played Aion, it was cool and all, but... Eh. Nothing new, just NCSoft breaking into the standard, finally. The CryEngine is a nice touch, but other than that, there's no real reason to play it over another MMO if you are already playing one.

God damn it, turns out you have to pay after 6 hours...
Now I have a dilemma - buy more hours or wait for more beta... Guess I'll wait for now and enjoy L4D.

Wiki'd it and turns out it's the RETAIL version.
So the 6 hours is a "trial".
I'd say it's worth it. Game is really good. And lags? What lags? I had little problems, game has an amazingly optimized network code.
Besides, for $4 I get 20 hours of a great game. That's less than for a movie ticket.

Oh not lag in game, although my battered old comp might struggle, but I don't want uber graphics anyway. Was talking about the lag I'm getting from downloading atm.
I did a quick google of prices for time and the best I found was here:

Wow, thanks for the site. Really low prices. I bought about 20 hours for $2, that's 1/3 of what a movie ticket costs, or a Big Mac. Or two hot dogs/large ice creams.
I think I know what's more healthy and what lasts longer.
